Ferriby Christmas Party 2007
Friday 21st December 2007, 6pm to late
Village Hall, Church Street, North Ferriby
T'was a couple of days before Christmas - so let's party!
Outstanding!"
For all those that were there, you'll know what we mean...
We thought it was a gamble starting things off so early, but there was a queue when we opened the doors and the place was packed by the time the bar opened and the music started at 7 (we must commend the bar staff, Andy, Brian and Libby, plus honourable mentions to everyone else who chipped in to help - unpaid volunteers every one).
We started with a great performance from the 'East Side Dancers' to kickstart the show, followed by 'In The Making', a young band that played with such energy and enthusiasm that the crowd were cheering from the off.
The 'East Side Dancers' took the floor again while 'The Fresh' tuned up and then really kicked things up with a 45 minute set of geat classic rock numbers, led by Hannah's strong vocals supported by the driving rhythm section and solid guitar riffs (all the richer for the Marshall stack!).
'East Side Dancers' got down with a Christmas number, suitably costumed, followed by a wonderful solo performance by Katie. 'East Side Dancers' then pulled off an eerily convincing zombie show, performing Michael Jackson's Thriller choreography, leading, in a surreal way, into a pie and peas supper, the raffle and charity auction.
At nine thirty 'TripManhattan' wound things up again with their standard opener of Brown Sugar, moving through a few accoustic numbers before livening the beat up again with Maria, In a Picture and The Hunter (a number from their new CD); Caroline's vocals and eloquent physical performance grabbing the audience.
A rapid change brought 'The Neumes' to the stage, with their wonderfully versatile blend of subtle vocals, 'get down and dance' brass and 'pop-jazz' material. Their performance was a tribute to their skill and professionalism and we were delighted to have such a great group supporting the event, especially knowing the effort they put in to making the logistics work out.
TripManhattan rocked the night to a stonking close with song after song of fast paced, danceable rock which filled the dance floor and had them chanting in the back rows.
Special thanks to the other artists that performed and the supporters without whose help we couldn't have pulled it all off, I think everyone commented on the great quality of the beer from Wold Top Brewery!
A capacity crowd of all ages having a marvellous time raising money for charity. What more could anyone else ask? Except to wonder if we should do it again next year...
